Although stemming from a joint program, the French and Italian multi-mission frigates (FREMM) exhibit distinct characteristics. Compared to their counterparts in the Italian Navy (Bergamini class), the frigates of the French Navy have a lower displacement and feature a higher degree of automation. Furthermore, their sensors and weapon systems differ significantly.
