The Italian Navy’s aerial capabilities now hinge on the aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and the amphibious assault ship ITS Trieste. The latter has replaced the ITS Garibaldi, which was put into reserve in October 2024 and is expected to sail again soon—albeit under the Indonesian flag, following recent authorization from the Italian Senate.
