At the beginning of 2024, the multi-mission frigate with enhanced air defense capabilities, FREMM DA Alsace, was extensively deployed to counter attacks launched from Yemen by Houthi rebels against maritime traffic in the Red Sea. The naval operation, known as Aspides, achieved significant results, including the interception of 9 aerial drones and 1 surface drone.

The Alsace frigate successfully fired an ASTER 30 missile to intercept a supersonic target launched by a Rafale M fighter jet.
