In January 2024, Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria signed an agreement on the “MCM Black Sea” initiative to combat the threat of mines in the Black Sea more effectively. A dedicated naval group is to be established as part of this initiative. “This initiative will only be open to the vessels of the three allied coastal countries,” stated Yasar Güler.
