Designed nearly forty years ago and commissioned into active service in the early 1990s, the six Floréal-class surveillance frigates have been patrolling the expansive 11 million square kilometers of the French Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) from overseas territories. Their primary missions include fishing patrols and anti-smuggling operations.
