In 2008, during an operation to rescue hostages held by Somali pirates after the boarding of the sailing vessel Le Ponant, a marine commando successfully fired a shot into the engine of the kidnappers’ 4×4 vehicle using a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle from a Panther helicopter. Achieving such precise accuracy despite the vehicle’s movement demonstrates the exceptional skill and training of military snipers.
