The revelation in 2004 regarding the existence of Initiative 362, launched in complete secrecy a year earlier, hindered South Korea’s ambition to equip its naval forces with nuclear attack submarines (SSNs). However, this initiative was not abandoned. In light of escalating regional tensions, particularly due to North Korea’s nuclear developments, South Korea has continued to pursue its goals in submarine capabilities.
